Dormie
Visiting
How to arrange a game.
Dormie has no online tee sheet and no intention of acquiring one. Visitors play by a member’s introduction — which is less forbidding than it sounds, and rather the point.
Green fees, stated in full
Guest of a member, weekday
£68
Guest of a member, weekend
£85
Introduced visitor, by letter
£120
Societies — Tuesdays, by arrangement
£95 a player
Fees include the day’s range balls and a locker. A member’s introduction is the only tee sheet we keep.
The arrangement
I
Write, or be written for
A member writes to the secretary proposing the game — or you write directly, honestly, saying who you are and how you play.
II
The tee is arranged
The secretary offers a morning. Tuesdays and Fridays are kindest to visitors; Saturdays belong to the medal.
III
Play, sign, lunch
You play, you sign the visitors’ book, and you are expected for lunch. The lamb is the right answer.
On dress, briefly
Tidy on the course, jacket in the dining room after seven.
Denim never made the committee’s list and never will. Golf shoes come off at the reading-room door; caps come off indoors everywhere. Mobile telephones are treated as a rub of the green — silent, and produced only to photograph the view from the tenth.
