Dormie
The book
Apply for membership.
Not a booking form. A form of application, read by people, decided in committee.
Form of application
To the Secretary, Dormie Golf & Country Club
Membership is by election, not purchase. The committee reads every form in full — write as you would speak in the bar.
By members of five years' standing. If you know no one, say so below — the captain arranges introductions, and enjoys it.
Nothing is charged at application. The joining fee is invoiced only upon election.
What happens next
I
The proposal
Your proposer and seconder write to the secretary — a few honest lines each. She has read every style of handwriting since 1998.
II
The book
Your name is entered in the candidates’ book, which lies open in the hall for a fortnight. Members read it. That is rather the point.
III
The election
The committee meets quarterly and votes. Your proposer hears first, then you — in writing, with the invoice and the tee sheet.
