Dormie

Golf & Country Club

Questions

Asked often, answered honestly.

Can I simply book a round?

No. Dormie has no public tee sheet — visitors play by a member’s introduction, or by an honest letter to the secretary. The Visiting page explains the whole ritual.

How long is the waiting list, really?

About fourteen months for Full membership, about six for Intermediate. We publish the figure and update it each April — mumbling about it helps nobody.

Do I need a handicap to apply?

No. The committee cares whether you’ll suit the club, not what you play off. Some of our best members are terrible golfers and say so first.

I don’t know a member. Is that fatal?

Not at all. Say so on the form — the captain arranges introductions and considers it one of the pleasures of the office.

What does joining actually cost?

Printed in full on the Membership page: the joining fee, the year’s dues, and what they include. Nothing is charged at application.

Can children use the club without a parent member?

The academy takes juniors on ability alone — a parent need not belong. It is the one door that opens from the outside.

What’s the dress code?

Tidy on the course; jacket in the dining room after seven; denim never. Caps off indoors. It takes a paragraph, not a handbook.

Do you host weddings?

No. The house belongs to the members and the diary is full of their own occasions. The Summer Ball is quite enough romance for one roof.

Are dogs allowed?

On a lead, on the course before nine and after four, and in the bar by standing tradition. The greens are another matter entirely.

Which clubs are reciprocal?

Fourteen, from the Highlands to the Algarve — the list lives behind the bar and travels with a letter from the secretary.
